At DOK Leipzig 2025, the No Nation Films Fellowship Award was presented to the team of director Hazal Hanquet and producers Aslıhan Altuğ and Anna Maria Aslanoğlu for their debut feature documentary My Aunties.
The project tells a story of love and friendship between two women and traces their queer journey through Istanbul using personal archives and photographs and uncovers a tale of resilience, love and quiet defiance in a society that sought to keep them hidden.
The Fellowship provides a six-month program of mentorship and guidance, designed to support documentary film-teams working under vulnerable circumstances. Launched in 2024 to mark No Nation Films’ 10th anniversary, it is our way of paying forward the solidarity and support we ourselves once received.
