Meet our incoming Fellows Fan Yang and Yiqian Zhang, who joined the cohort of the No Nation Film’s Fellowship in May 2025, after participating in the Docs By The Sea Storytelling Lab in 2024. Fan and Yiqian are the director and the producer of ‘Chunyu: A Death Foretold’, a feature-length documentary film about a personal reckoning as the director returns to her rural hometown amidst her grandmother’s illness.

Fan Yang is an independent filmmaker based in China, currently working on her first feature-length documentary — a personal story that weaves together family experiences and broader social changes. She also has several years of experience in comedy and social media content production, where she explores different modes of storytelling and ways to connect with audiences.

Yiqian Zhang is a Toronto-based Chinese producer who has Canadian and International experience in both the festival and broadcast fields. She was co-producer on the Academy-award-winning documentary American Factory, which sold to Netflix and launched worldwide. She has worked on various productions as a producer, associate producer, line producer, field producer and researcher. Yiqian is an alumna of Berlinale Talents.
