Meet our Fellow: Jewel Maranan, who was awarded the No Nation Films Fellowship at Visions du Réel 2026 and began her Fellowship in July 2026.

Jewel Maranan is a filmmaker and producer based in the Philippines. Her documentary films interrogate histories of conflict, displacement, and colonial aftermath. In addition to her filmmaking, she organized pioneering cinema initiatives in the Philippines, such as the Nation in Visions Film Festival (2019), the Alternative Cinema Initiatives Conference (2019), and the Daang Dokyu Film Festival. She also co-founded the Filipino Documentary Society and created DaangDokyu.ph, an online database and distribution platform for Philippine documentaries.

Jewel is working on the feature-length documentary film THE PEOPLE OUTSIDE, in which a filmmaker journeys into the Pacific-side mountain ranges of rural Philippines in search of the undercurrents that sustain a deep-rooted conflict for decades.
