Meet our newest Fellows: Haeryun Kang and Somang Choi, who were awarded the Fellowship at Docs By the Sea 2025, and began their Fellowship in December 2025. 

Haeryun is a journalist and documentary filmmaker based in Seoul, South Korea. Somang is active in South Korea, focusing on film production, new media research, and film festivals.

Haeryun and Somang are collaborating on the feature-length documentary film NARO’S SEARCH FOR SPACE, which takes place on Naro Island, where Naro Space Center is located. In the field of tension between an aging, disappearing past and a hypermodern future with more rocket parts than children, the inhabitants are faced with the decision of whether to stay or to leave the island for good.
